Don’t Panic!

June 3, 2008

I just wanted to try a different look for the blog, and this theme appealed to me for a few reasons:

1. The text-background color contrast on the previous theme was giving me a headache to read (and the basic WordPress account won’t let you change text colors), and

2. The text size always seemed too small for me.

So I’m trying this out for a bit. Sit on it, let me know what you think, and I’ll be happy in my own idiom.

  1. PANIC!!! MASS HYSTERIA!!!

Just kidding… it looks good. πŸ™‚

  2. I like the contrast between background and the text-area. However the main column seems rather small, the text seems extremely cramped up.

Also the logo is lookin’ a bit rag-tag.

Other than that, It looks good.

  3. It looks quite good, though the black color at the top of the background doesn’t allow for the banner to be well defined at the top imo. Other than that It’s all good. πŸ™‚

  4. Like it. Easier to read than the former black site.

  5. Likes:
    – White space
    – Text contrast
    – Font Size

    Dislikes:
    – Background (bleeds into your header too much – maybe you can reverse the gradient or use different colours?)

Overall, I find it an improvement because I’m not a huge fan of dark themes (like you had previously).

  6. Thanks for the comments — I added a slight white border to the sides and top of the banner to help distinguish it from the background.

  7. Thanks. I’ve always liked your content but the contrast and text size were a constant annoyance.

  8. I think the main column needs to be a bit wider, that way you can bump up the text size by one. I mean, it is a blog so the idea is to read it, right? Columns that are 15 to 20 words across are probably ideal, and of course a larger text size means increased legibility. That way, the text won’t feel so constrained when you incorporate images and you might be able to include wider images easier.

    Also, I was bored:

  9. Wow that header is so cool! I’m trying it out right now… although the custom header size is 700×200, and the image is 800×200, so I had to crop it a bit.

Because I’m using the basic WordPress templates, I can’t resize columns or make the text bigger. WYSIWYG.
